For many patients, having one or more missing teeth is a harsh reality that they must face every day. Despite how you’ve lost your teeth—whether it be because of an injury or poor oral hygiene—replacing what you’ve lost is important. A gapped smile is just as poor for your oral health as a damaged or infected one. Tylan Creek Family Dentistry understands the importance of having every slot in your smile filled, ensuring full functionality. One of the best ways to replace a single or entire row of teeth is with dental implants in Piedmont.
Getting Dental Implants
The dental implant process contains three phases. Many dental practices refer patients outside of their offices to meet with a specialist for the surgical portion of their procedure, but we’re happy to provide both the surgical implant placement and tooth replacement restoration all in our one-stop shop dental practice.
1. Evaluation and Preparation
The first step to getting dental implants is determining if you’re a good candidate for them or not during your first dental appointment. This has a lot to do with the health of your jawbone. Your jawbone needs to be strong enough to hold, adjust to, and stabilize the dental implant posts. If your jawbone holds adequate strength, then we can move straight to phase two. If your jaw bone isn’t strong enough, you may have to undergo a bone grafting procedure to make it durable enough to hold your dental implant posts.
2. Placing the Implant Posts
During this step, one of our dental experts will methodically place your dental implant posts within your jawbone. This sounds painful, but with the help of a local anesthetic and pain medications, you won’t feel a thing! These biocompatible implant posts will fuse to your jawbone naturally with a process called osseointergration. This is truly the beauty of dental implants—they restore the health of your smile from the inside out.
3. Placing Your Dental Prosthetic
The third step is the most exciting because you will be able to see your anticipated results. An abutment will be attached to your implant post to hold a dental prosthetic in place. Depending on the severity of your tooth loss, you may be looking at having dentures permanently placed or simply one dental crown. Either way, our office has the advanced technology to create your dental restorations all under one roof. CEREC same-day dental crowns will create your custom dental prosthetic before you leave our office.
